How bubble text works

Bubble text isn't a font. Each letter is swapped for a separate character that already has a circle or box drawn around it, like ⓐ instead of a. Phones and computers ship with these characters, so they show up in places where you can't pick a font, like an Instagram bio or a Discord name.

Only the plain circled style has lowercase letters. The black and square styles are capitals only, so lowercase letters turn into capitals. Numbers work in the circled styles. Spaces, punctuation, and emoji stay as they are.

Where it works

Instagram, TikTok, X, Discord, YouTube comments, and text messages all show bubble text. Some games and older apps show empty boxes instead, so check how it looks before you post. In the black square style, 🅰 🅱 🅾 🅿 are also emoji, so some phones show them in red.

Use it sparingly

Screen readers read each character by its full name, so "ⓗⓘ" comes out as "circled latin small letter h, circled latin small letter i." Search can't find it either. Bubble text is great for a name or a short title, but keep the important stuff in plain letters.
