Drawing lowercase bubble letters
Lowercase letters come in three heights. Short letters like a, c, e, and o take up the middle of the line. Tall letters like b, d, h, k, and l rise above them. Letters with tails, g, j, p, q, and y, drop below the baseline. Draw a faint top line, middle line, and baseline before you start, so every letter in the word lines up.
Leave a bit more room under the line than you think you need. Puffed-up tails get wide, and a cramped g or y is the most common thing that goes wrong.
Dots and holes
Draw the dot on i and j as its own little bubble with a clear gap above the stem. Keep the holes in a, e, and g small and high: they shrink as you puff the outline, so start them a little bigger than they’ll end up.
